Eastern Sicily Itinerary

This year we are offering a special tour of eastern Sicily, with a focus on the baroque history, architecture, and art of the region. The trip will take place from September 21-28, 2026.

Day one: September 21, 2026

• Arrival in Otrigia, a hub of baroque architecture

• Welcome dinner and group introductions

Day two: September 22, 2026

• Travel to the city of Ragusa, Sicily’s baroque jewel

• Explore the historic center of Ragusa 

  • Cathedral of San Giorgio, Iblei Gardens, Artisan shops and Local Markets

• Lunch at a traditional trattoria

• Afternoon at an Italian cooking class

Day three: September 23, 2026

• Explore the city of Syracuse

• Morning at the Archeological Park of Neapolis

  • Greek Theater, The Ear of Dionysus, The Alter of Hieron

• Lunch in the island of Ortigia

• Explore the island of Ortigia

  • The cathedral, The Fountain of Arethusa, walk along the seaside

Day four: September 24, 2026

• Depart for Noto, the Baroque capital

• Explore the historic city of Noto

  • Cathedral of St. Nicholas, Palazzo Ducezio, Church of San Domenico, Corso Vittorio Emanuele

• Afternoon visit to a winery in Avola to taste Nero d’Avola

• Return to Ortigia

Day five: September 25, 2026

• Depart for Caltagirone known for it’s hand-decorated ceramics

• Explore the historic city of Caltagirone

• • Santa Maria del Monte Staircase, explore artisan workshops

• Lunch in a local trattoria

Day six: September 26, 2026

• Depart for Taormina

• Explore the historic city of Taormina

  • Greek theater, views of Mount Etna, shopping on Corso Umberto

• Descent to Isola Bella, one of the most fascinating beaches in Sicily

• Travel to Catania for overnight stay

Day seven: September 27, 2026

• Explore the historic center of Catania

  • Piazza del Duomo, Elephant Fountain, Etnea main street, local fish market

• Lunch break for street food

• Visit to the Bellini Gardens and Benedictine Monastery

Day eight: September 28, 2026

• Farewell breakfast and return to USA
